We've been using this dough recipe for years; it was passed on to us from a co-op preschool mom when E was teeny tiny. It is my absolute favorite recipe and the dough is incredibly silky smooth. All the details on how to make this fantastic dough are below, or head to the very bottom to snag a free print out of the recipe. Supplies & Instructions
2 1/2 C flour
1/2 C salt
2 T vegetable oil
1 1/2 C boiling water
*alum can be purchased in the spice aisle but is much cheaper on Amazon.
-Add the flour, salt, and alum to the bowl and mix
-Add the oil to the mixer and mix
-Measure out the boiling water and add food coloring to the water
-Slowly add the boiling water while mixing.
Don’t go by how it looks, touch the dough. It will usually look sticky but not wet (swipe to see what I mean). If you touch it and it doesn’t stick to your finger, pull it out and kneed it. If it’s a little bit sticky still pull it out and kneed it. As it cools it will not be sticky.
If it is clumped in a dough ball it needs more water. This type of dough will dry out super fast. If you find your dough like this (at any point), add boiling water in small increments while mixing until you have a good consistency. When you fold and kneed the dough, it should feel like a fluffy marshmallow and have some stretch (when it’s warm)
Store in a ziplock bag or air tight container.
