Water Play & Table Review

We’ve been playing with our new mud kitchen from Discount School Supply (gifted) and it’s ahhhmazing! You guys, it has a functional faucet!! We were already huge fans of water play, but the hand pump faucet has taken our play to a whole new level of fun! The best part about the faucet is that it recycles the water from the sink play. No need to hook up a hose and risk flooding the whole place, or wasting water. The sink also has an overflow port which flows back into the water bucket below. The quality of this mud kitchen is top notch! If you are in the market for a mud kitchen, I highly recommend this one (Excellerations, Mud Kitchen #MUDKIT) from Discount School Supply.

Water Play

Our must have items for water play include spoons, bowls or buckets, and stainers. We love the baking set (gifted) from Discount School Supply which includes two stainless steel bowls, along with other baking dishes, some wood spoons, and measuring spoons.

Water play allows for creative and critical thinking, sensory stimulation, and hypothesis testing. In addition, the scooping and pouring action while playing with water encourages hand and eye coordination strengthening.

Mud Kitchen Review

I usually outsource my building to my husband but this was actually pretty easy, and took about an hour to unbox and build. Check out our Instagram account for an assembly video. In addition to the hardware and tools provided, I needed a screw driver. I also opted for a drill instead of the included hand tool to assemble the table, making it a little faster assembly. Let’s face it, when the kids are asking when it’s going to be done, speed is key!

The faucet comes with instructions on disassembly for cleaning when used with mud play, which I really appreciate. Like most hand pumps, creating the initial suction can take a few minutes, but using a back and forth motion on the hand crank will eventually pull the water through the faucet. Once the initial suction was created, both girls (4yo and 6yo) could easily get water to flow from the faucet.

Another thing I would like to note is that the table is made from FSC Certified eucalyptus, meaning the harvested wood is from "forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable" (source: the spruce). While eucalyptus wood is a durable wood for outdoor furniture, we live in a high desert and will be keeping our sink setup in a covered area.

I am seriously impressed by the quality, design, and setup of this mud kitchen. If you are in the market for a water table, this mud kitchen from Discount School Supply would be a great addition to any homeschool, daycare, school, or just for play at home.
